Phyllis Takie (Nakayama) Nakahara
Phyllis Takie (Nakayama) Nakahara, 93, of Honolulu, Hawaii, passed away peacefully at her home in Liliha, Townside. Phyllis was born on February 7, 1924 in Honolulu, Hawaii. She graduated from Farrington High School and was the eldest, and last, surviving daughter of Tamotsu and Kimi Nakayama. Phyllis Takie Nakayama married Harold Shozo Nakahara from Kohala, Hawaii. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Shozo Nakahara and younger sister, Margaret Tsugie Yamashiroya. Phyllis retired from the State of Hawaii Employees' Retirement System where she handled accounting, managing investments and other responsibilities. In retirement, Phyllis was a devoted caregiver to her father, mother, husband and sister. Phyllis enjoyed ikebana, yoga, ukulele, taking gourmet cooking classes, knitting, gardening and traveling to be with family and friends. She truly cherished being a doting grandmother the most. Phyllis was a loving and caring wife, daughter, mother, sister, aunt, and friend to anyone she met. Phyllis' signature smile and laugh brightened up any room. Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Avis Kiyomi (Nakahara) Mitchell; son-in-law, Linwood Earl "Mitch" Mitchell; granddaughters, Jacquelyn Kayoko (Lum) Boaz and Jessyca Kimi Mitchell; grandson-in-law, Christopher Boaz; great grandchildren, Jameson Shozo Boaz and Evelyn Takie Boaz. Visitation will be at 9:00 AM on Friday, January 19, 2018. Services will follow at 10:00 AM at the East Chapel at Nuuanu Memorial Park & Mortuary. Please join us for some fellowship with stories, food and drinks. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Islands Hospice.
