Shigemitsu NakashimaSHIGEMITSU NAKASHIMA 89, of Kaneohe, a World War II veteran and former Hawaii state public welfare administrator, passed away peacefully at home on Feb. 5. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Janet; sons Gerald and Michael (Beverly Bielewicz); daughters Karen Kimura (Randall) and Ellen (Alan Sipress); brother Richard "Yasu" (Gladys); grandchildren Russell Kimura (Sarah), Erin Chinen (Daniel), and Tatyana, Alexander and Max Nakashima, and Natalie Sipress; and great-grandchildren Ava and Lily Kimura, and Caleb Chinen. Shig served as a military intelligence service interpreter in the Pacific in World War II. He received a masters in social work from the University of Pittsburgh. He retired in 1986 so he could golf, travel and enjoy his family. A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday at Moanalua Gardens Missionary Church. Visitation 2 pm. Service 3 pm.
