Richard E. Hansen
Nov. 30, 1931 to Jan. 2, 2018 Richard "Dick" Hansen, 86, was born in Tilden, Nebraska, to Otto and Pearl (Radke) Hansen. The student athlete played baseball for and graduated from UCLA in 1953 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science, and was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He then served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force's Air Intelligence Service Squadron. Dick then began a long career of helping people via the insurance industry and joined Aetna Life & Casualty in Tacoma, Wash., which led him to move to Oahu to manage the company's Honolulu office. He continued his career with New England Life, affiliated with First Insurance Co., as well as Hawaiian Life Insurance Company, Triad Insurance Agency and King & Neel, Inc. Dick was a highly skilled athlete and dedicated sports fan. He excelled in baseball and basketball while at UCLA and also enjoyed beach volleyball on the sun-soaked California sand. Later in life, he remained active by playing tennis, golf and softball. He is survived by wife Kanoe, son Michael (Jacquelyn) Hansen, daughters Kathleen Galdeira, Patricia (Oscar) De Masi and Jacinda Elias, and six grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held via an informal baseball game on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 10 a.m. at Kahala District Park's baseball field. Both players and spectators are welcome.
