Joseph Sey Mung Chang, DDS
88, of Nuuanu, passed away peacefully at home on February 2, 2018. Born in Honolulu, he was a caring and loving husband, father, and grandfather. Joseph attended St. Louis High School '47, Tulane University, and received his DDS from St. Louis University '57. He was stationed in Okinawa as a U.S. Army Captain in the Dental Corp. He returned to Honolulu and took over his father's Bethel Street practice and retired after 53 years. He was a charter member of the Chinatown Lion Club, the Young Wo Society, Hawaii Dental Association, St. Stephens Catholic Church, author of "Chatterbox" in the Hawaii Dental Journal for 21 years and frequent contributor to Don Chapman's column in the Honolulu Advertiser. An avid Bus rider, Doc was especially proud of his big, red, delicious, mouth watering "mountain apples", writing in his daily journal, designing his yearly Christmas cards, working in the yard and sharing his green thumb plants with his patients, eating at his favorite Chinese restaurants, and loved to travel with the family. Joseph is reunited with his beloved wife, Priscilla who passed in 2013. He is survived by his daughters, Lin Ann (Brian Shigaya), Jo Ann DDS and son, Kai (Shannan), and 2 grandchildren, Skylar and Cullen. Preceded in death by his parents Joseph Koon Sing and Elizabeth Aoe Yuen Chang, sisters Lani Eaton, Ethel (Wallace) Au, Gracie (Timothy) Pang, and Betty (Raymond) Ho. Services will be on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at St. Stephen's Church on Pali Highway. Visitation will start at 9:30 a.m., Services at 11:00 a.m. and Mass to follow. Burial after that at Nuuanu Memorial Park.
