Manley Kirkeby
MANLEY KIRKEBY 1917 - 2011 Manley H. O. Kirkeby, 93, a thirty year resident of Kailua Kona, Hawaii, died peacefully at home on January 27, 2011. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. On March 8, 1917, Manley was born in Madoc, Montana. After high school graduation Manley joined the C.C.C. (Civilian Conservation Corp.) and sent his pay home to his family. He then took a solitary job at a fire watch station in a remote area of Montana. The next job was in Seattle at Boeing Aircraft, followed by a brief time in the Merchant Marines, sailing to India and Burma (now Myanmar). After World War II, and an honorable discharge, Manley moved to Devon, Montana, and dry-farmed grain until the late 50's when he sold the farm and moved to Mesa, Arizona. Manley became a realtor, started Kirkeby Enterprises and Inland Development Company and built two subdivisions. He saw a need for local window availability and started K. P. Window Co., later buying out his partner and operating it until the 80's. He sold the business and retired to Kona, where he enjoyed golfing and, for quite a few years ran the Wed. A.M. Kini Popo golf group at the Kona Country Club. Manley was a life-long Lutheran and a charter member of the Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity, Kailua Kona, Hawaii. He was a life member of the Kona Elks and past PER of the Elks in Shelby, Montana. He also belonged to the Scottish Rite, Kona Masonic Lodge, life member of Shelby Masonic Lodge, Aloha Shrine Temple, life member of Kona Shrine Club, Royal Order of Jesters and a life member of Royal Order of Scotland. Manley is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Jean "Bunny"; son David (Emelyn Viloria) of Honolulu; daughter Karen Tano Malaekeh (Ali) of Lake Forest California; brother Otis (Doris) of Oak Harbor, Washington; sister Lois Gragg of Newport Beach, California; four granddaughters and numerous nieces and nephews.
