Howard Howe Lung
80, of Rancho Santa Margarita, California, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 surrounded by his family. Howard was born July 19, 1938 to William and Sarah Lung. He grew up in Waimanalo where he had many adventures with good friends as a young boy. Following graduation from Castle High School in 1956, he enlisted in the Air Force. Serving his country, Howard travelled all over the world. While stationed in England, he met his beautiful wife, Doreen, of whom he had just celebrated 57 years of marriage with. Following active duty, Howard and his wife returned to Oahu where he joined Hawaiian Telephone Company and worked there for 25 years. During this time, he continued to serve in the Air Force Reserve, retiring with 20 years of service. He and his wife relocated to California in 2001 to be near their children and grandchildren. Despite losing his vision to a macular degenerative disease, he enjoyed playing the ukulele, exercise, and quality time with his grandchildren who adored him. Howard is survived by his wife Doreen, his daughters, Deborah (Craig) Placek, Jacqueline (Francis) Fitzpatrick; grandchildren, Emma and Nicholas Placek; brothers, Donald (Marie), Allan and Michael and sister, Jeanne and many nieces and nephews. Howard was preceded in death by his parents and younger sister, Sydney Hara. Howard's family will be bringing him home to Oahu one last time to rest. A celebration of life service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, January 18 at Valley of the Temples Trousdale Chapel. Inurnment will follow at Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery.
