FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Mildred Higashiguchi
89, of Honolulu, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2019 in the care of St. Francis Hospice in Nu'uanu. Born March 4, 1929 in Paia Maui Hawaii to Manuel and Angeline Benevides, Mildred was the fourth of six children. She attended Paia Elementary School and Maui High School. Upon graduation from Maui High, Mildred went to work for the Paia General Store where she met her late husband of 67 years, Leichi Higashiguchi. Mildred and Leichi were partners and best friends. For many years Mildred worked as an office manager for The Sample Shop in the Waikiki Outrigger Hotel. She later joined her husband when he started Eastgate Distributors in 1981. She continued to work at Eastgate up to the time of her passing. Mildred was a very active member and supporter of Star of the Sea Church since the early fifties. She attended mass regularly and generously donated her time, treasure and talent to the church. Mildred is survived by daughters Laurie (Greg) Planas of Kauai and Julie Higashiguchi of Honolulu, sons Mark (Faith) Higashiguchi of Waipahu and Dennis (Kathleen) Higashiguchi of Honolulu, 14 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and her beloved cats Taizo and Sachi. Visitation begins at 10:30 a.m. on February 8th, 2019 at Star of the Sea Church. Services start at 11:30 a.m. followed by Mass at 12:00 noon. Refreshments will be served after Mass in the parish social hall.
