Age 79, of Hilo, Hawaii, died May 9, 2019 in Honolulu, Hawaii. She was born in Koloa, Kauai on December 8, 1939 and was retired from the State of Hawaii Department of Education as a Third-Grade Teacher at Waiakeawaena Elementary School in Hilo. She was a member of the Hilo Missionary Church, Hui O Wahine FCE (Family and Community Education), Hawaii State Teachers Association (HSTA), and regular Mah Jong player at the Kamana Senior Center Classes. She had a great enthusiasm for gardening, enjoyed traveling, baked excellent cookies and well known for her fruit cake, and marveled at her wonderful grandchildren growing up. Visitation will be held at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo on June 29, 2019 (Saturday) from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.; memorial service will begin at 3:00 p.m. Casual attire is requested. No flowers. She is survived by: Husband: Alan Okinaka of Hilo; Sons: Jonathan (Mae Lin) Okinaka of Kenmore, Washington, Jeffrey (Kristin Mari) Okinaka of Kailua, Oahu; Sisters: Grace Takabayashi of Omao, Kauai, Betty (Lawrence) Ing of Wailuku, Maui; Three Grandchildren; Numerous uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins.
