ETHELREADEL “ETHEL” Piliwale Apao Kiesel
ETHELREADEL Ethel or "OMA", (German for grandmother), as she preferred to be called, died on June 7, 2019 at Castle Hospital, Kaneohe, Hawaii at the age of 90. Ethel "Oma" was born on November 15, 1928 in Hawaii to Silver K. Piliwale and Anna Titcomb. Oma was a multi-lingual accomplished passionate musician among many other talents. Skilled in several instruments, she was blessed with an operatic voice inherited from her musically talented Piliwale Family. She said that "music was like the air you breathe, it touched your soul, lifted your spirits, elevated your happiness and healed your heart." She was a lifelong member of both the Musicians Association of Hawaii and the Blood Bank of Hawaii. She frequently volunteered at schools and in communities teaching musical instruments and giving singing lessons. Preceded in death by daughter Andrea Kalilikane, Oma is survived by her children and their spouses: Ethelyn Rosa, Mark Apao, Darnella Aulani, Mersburg Apao, Jr., Ted Kiesel and Hurlden Kiesel; 19 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2019. Visitation: 10:00 a.m.; Service 11:00 a.m.; Reception: 12:00 p.m.; Burial: 2:00 p.m. at Hawaiian Memorial Park, 45-425 Kamehameha Hwy., Kaneohe. Oma loved hats so you're welcomed to wear one to help us Celebrate Her Life. "Oma, we are forever thankful for the 90 years that you have Blessed all our lives. You have left an Incredible Legacy."
