Richard Sadaji Takasaki, 93, retired Educator, passed away in Honolulu on April 15. Born and raised in Honolulu, Richard graduated from McKinley High School (Class of '36) and was an avid and life long learner, educator, voracious reader and dedicated sports fan.
Richard held degrees from the University of Hawaii, Columbia, Harvard and Brandeis Universities. He served the State of Hawaii as Chief of Research & Statistics and Chief Budget Examiner; the City & County of Honolulu as Director of Finance; the University of Hawaii: as VP, Business Affairs, Professor of Social Work, Acting President, Chancellor; the East West Center as VP, Administration and the Bishop Estate as Director of Finance.
He also served the community holding numerous roles including Hawaii Humane Society, Campaign Chair; Kamehameha Schools, Board of Governors; Liliuokalani Trust Child Welfare Dept, Advisory Committee Chairman, City & County Planning Commission and the Hawaii Visitors Bureau, Board of Directors, amongst others.
Richard was married to the late T. Rose (Hara) and is survived by brother George (Betty); sister, Roberta (Jimmy) Uesugi; beloved dog, VeePee III, and numerous sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews and loving colleagues and friends.
He will be fondly remembered and deeply missed for his ever present sense of humor, unfailing loyalty and optimistic spirit.
Services: May 1 at 10 am. Hosoi Mortuary, 30 N. Kukui St. Aloha attire.
