Nanette HowardNANNETTE HOWARD
88, of Honolulu died in Manoa on April 11, 2011. She was born Oct.17, 1922 to John and Nannette Dolan in Brooklyn, N.Y. She met Richard, "Dick" Howard in N.Y. during WWII and they were married in 1945. She came back with him to his home state of Hawaii where they raised three sons. He preceded her in death in 1992.
As well as raising three sons, Nannette worked part time at Sears and later as an independent contractor with Bel Air Travel. It was during this period that she started what she called "Nannette's Grad Nite Tour", which took graduating seniors from Hawaii high schools on a tour of the Los Angeles area, including a special night at Disneyland reserved exclusively for those just graduating high school. She did this for roughly twenty years. This tour has evolved into what is now called "Hawaii Grad Nite"
She is survived by her sons, Michael and wife Linda of Olympia, WA, William and wife Linda of Danville, CA, and James and wife Montse of Honolulu. She is also leaving two granddaughters, Melinda Howard and Hannah Dean; one great granddaughter Tyler Anne Howard; niece Eileen Calandrillo and nephew John Brennan, both of Brooklyn, N.Y.; nephew John Chapman and niece Leslie Anne Munro, both of Honolulu.
Prayer service will be held at the Mystical Rose Oratory Chapel at Chaminade University on May 16 at 6 PM. Interment will be at Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery in Kaneohe on May 19th at 1 PM. Casual attire. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice Hawaii or to the Alzheimers Association.
