Born on November 16, 1940 in Hawi, Hawaii, and raised in Ilocos Sur, Philippines, Richard was the son of Arnolfo and Hilda Doral. As a boy, selling scrap metal, pandesal, and shoe shining, fueled his entrepreneurial spirit and ultimately inspired the establishment of his own construction business in his adult life. For 30 years, Doral Construction was successfully operated by Richard and his wife, Rose Marie. In 1991, he served as the President of the Gypsum Drywall Contractors of Hawaii for one year. As a faithful member of Faith Assembly of God, Richard served as a head usher, deacon, and spearheaded numerous renovations of their church.
During his extensive travels and here at home, Richard enjoyed meeting and talking with people and was quick to offer a smile. He was an exceptional cook and was known for his hospitality. He was also known for his unique collection of Western boots. Treasured daily walks often found him arriving at a nearby McDonald's to talk with friends. One of the greatest joys in his life was time spent with his wife and other family members.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving wife, Rose Marie Doral of almost 40 years; sons Jeffrey Thomas Doral and Charles Richardson Doral; daughter, Francine D. Higashi; stepdaughter, Clara D. Priester and her husband, Dwayne E. Priester; stepson, Charles W. Smith, Jr.; 4 brothers, 2 sisters, 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 1 great, great-grandchild; one uncle, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and long-time friends.
A celebration of life in honor of Richard will be live streamed online from Faith Assembly of God on Saturday, August 29, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. To join the celebration, please visit www.myfaithassembly.com
Richard will especially be remembered for his kindness, hugs, love of laughter, and generosity. He will be missed immeasurably.
