Though her given first name was Theanne, she went by her middle name, Anela, practically from day one. Anela graduated from Kamehameha Schools in 1973. She began flying for Western Airlines on May 21st, 1979, sparking her lifelong love of travel. She eventually donned a Delta Airlines uniform when Delta purchased Western Airlines.
On April 22nd, 1989, Anela married Kenny Shamel, and the two welcomed a daughter, Kalehua, on May 15th, 1990. Anela had a vivacious and magnetic personality, naturally attracting those around her. She enjoyed traveling, spending time with her family, and decorating for just about every holiday one might imagine. She took great joy in making things beautiful, perfecting everything down to the smallest detail.
Anela is survived by her mother, Beverly, her daughter, Kalehua, her brother Tom Mehau, and sister, Dana Mehau-Vericella, her ex-husband, Kenny, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Given the current climate of the world, the family has chosen to mourn privately, in the hope that a more public celebration of life can take place in the new year.
