A native son of the Pacific Northwest passed away on March 25, 2011 at the age of 81. Captain Parker was born on December 15, 1929 to Lyle and Alberta Parker of Puyallup, WA. Raised there he entered the Coast Guard in 1949 graduating from the Coast Guard Academy in 1954. In 1961 he received a Master Degree in Naval Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Retiring as Captain with 30 years of service in April of 1980, he earned numerous commendations and awards throughout his career, including service during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After his retirement from government service he also managed the Honolulu Shipyard in Hawaii for four years. His final 22 years of retirement were spent on Whidbey Island at the home he designed and built with Grace his beloved wife of 57 years.
Captain Parker is survived by his wife Grace, his sister Carolyn Joan Jacox, son Robert and wife Grace, son Eric and wife May Lan, and his precious grandson Cory Lyle.
Private services will be held at the Punchbowl National Memorial Cemetery.
