Passed at home on July 9, 2021 at the age of 91. Edith was born in Germany to Ernst and Rosa Romen. She moved to New York City after WWII. Her multilingual skills proved useful in her employment at Radio Free Europe. Various jobs followed--relocating to Arizona, Newport Beach (CA), and Hawaii.She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 32 years Vernon Funn, Sr. She is survived by stepson Vernon (Skip) Funn, Jr., stepdaughter Vernette Oliveira, and Germany cousin Helmut Schreiner (and his son Markus).
Edith enjoyed gymnastics, track, physical fitness, sailing, scuba diving, and any other endeavor that presented a challenge. Her proudest achievements were obtaining a lifeguard certificate as a 14-year-old, scaling Mt. Whitney (14,505 ft), and obtaining a pilot's license. International travel-- particularly to Australia where step-niece Cheryl Packman lives-- were highlights throughout her life.
Her outgoing personality, bold character, and adventurous spirit for an active life made her a very special person who will be sorely missed. Edith Romen Funn lived her life without regrets--as in her favorite Edith Piaf song "Non, je ne regrette rien".
