She was preceded in death by her husband Takeshi "Punchy" Furutani. She was also predeceased by her parents Ensaburo and Kane (Yamamoto) Nakaya, as well as her siblings: Choshi (Mitsuyo Yokoyama) Nakaya; Takeo (Helen Koga) Nakaya; Asato (Tsukie Matsumoto) Nakaya; Kazue Nakaya; Umeyo (Tameyoshi) Takaki; Yoshiko (Sakae) Osaki; Masako "Alice" (Elmer F.) Olson; and Kikue (Tamotsu) Kunishige.

She is survived by daughter Edith (Hamid) Shams of New Jersey and
sons Henry (Rachel Maeda) Furutani of Lihue and Carl (Laurie
Kamishita) of Kaneohe. Her six grandchildren are: Marissa (Jeffrey) White of Stuttgart, Germany; Nicole Shams of Brooklyn, NY; Marci Furutani of St Louis, MO; Shelly (Joseph) Cassler of Honolulu; Jamie Furutani of Kaneohe and Kelsie Furutani of Fort Collins, CO. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
