Nyna Medeiros “Grandma Sunshine” Akiona, 81, of Kailua-Kona, a retired PBX operator for the former Kona Inn Resort, courtesy clerk for Kailua-Kona KTA and an airport lei greeter for Chuck Machado Hawaii, died at home. She was born in Hilo. She is survived by husband James Sr.; sons James Jr. and Harold Akiona, and John-Bull and Kiaaina Medeiros; daughters Sheri Adams, Teddy Akau, Jaymie Akiona, Neddie deJesus, Ka‘ulu Amaral and Chako Akiona-Yamashita; hanai sons Boogie Leleiwi Jr., Milton Alcos, Adrian Kukua, Raymond and Ricky Navarro, and Thomas Ynigues; hanai daughters Lehua Kala‘i, Aulani Pajimola and Edine Soriano; brother Tracy Medeiros; sisters Miriam DeRamos and Julia Yasuhara; 24 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. Visitation: 8 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Kailua-Kona. Mass: 10 a.m. Aloha attire. Lei and loose flowers welcome.
