94, passed away peacefully in Kailua from Alzheimer's to be with his loved ones in Heaven on September 26, 2021. He was born in Honolulu on January 18, 1927 to Joseph and Marie Cabral.During his senior year at Farrington High School, "Sad" Sam Ichinose was his boxing trainer and manager.
After high school, he joined the Army and saw combat during World War II and later travelled with the Army Boxing Team as a full-time boxer and was a runner-up for the Army boxing team in the lightweight division.
He boxed at Schofield Barracks, New Caledonia, Japan and throughout many states and was honorably discharged from the Army in 1947.
Thereafter, he worked at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard as a machinist helper and later transferred to the Pearl Harbor Military Police Department where he continued his amateur boxing career with "Sad" Sam Ichinose as his trainer and manager.
Edward Townsend was his new manager in 1947, and he became the lightweight champion and received his Golden Glove AAU Championship and turned professional in 1948.
During his boxing career, he married Marie Salomon. Together, they had 4 children and she passed away in 1979 at the age of 44 years old.
After hanging up his boxing gloves, he worked for the Federal Fire Department attaining the rank of Captain and retired in 1981 after 34 years of service.
He received numerous awards for his outstanding achievements and his loyal service at the Kaneohe Federal Fire Department.
After his retirement from the Fire Department, he worked at J. C. Penny's for 10 years and he also played baseball for the Senior League as a catcher and managed the children's league as Head Empire.
He was known for his pleasant personality, loved and respected by many and was blessed to have a network of friends.
He will be truly missed along with his beautiful smile.

Survived by wife, Aileen of 37 years, his children: sons, Richard Jr., of California (Mayette), Derek (Patricia), Dwayne (Debbie) and daughter, Dina (Gloria), 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, sisters Melba Buna & Shirley Conwell, both of California, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sisters Agnes Slade, Albertina Murry, Gladys Yates and brothers Joseph "Sonny" Cabral and Abraham Cabral.
