JAMES A. MARCIEL, JR. Age 85, of Kailua, passed away on January 23, 2022, in Kailua. He was born in Kula, Maui. He was the son of the late James and Anita Marciel, Sr. He was a proud graduate of Saint Louis School, Class of 1955. As a former draftsman for the State of Department of Transportation, he helped design Oahu's major highways and a portion of Kamehameha Schools' Kapalama Campus. He had a lifelong passion for the sport of canoe paddling. He was a co-founder and charter member of the Kailua Canoe Club fifty years ago and the founder of the Honolulu Harbor Day Regatta. He was instrumental in organizing the Oahu Canoe Racing Association. James is predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Sandra, and sisters Anita Williams, Patricia Mendiola, and brother Freeman Allen. He is survived by sons Walter "Wally" (Kathleen) and James Ku'i, daughter Tricia and brother Thomas Marciel, six grand- children, and 11 great-grand- children. Visitation and Service at 10:00 a.m. and Mass at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 4 at St. Anthony's of Padua Church, Kailua. Scattering of ashes to follow in Kailua Bay. Casual attire and mask are optional.
