He was the recipient of the Presidential Meritorious Teaching Award at the University of Hawaii. He also taught for many summers in American Samoa and the Marshall Islands, and conducted numerous workshops for teachers at Kamehameha, Punahou and other private schools.
Tony became a program facilitator for the Manoa Forum, which brought the "town and gown" together to discuss topics of common interest.
Beyond his many professional accomplishments, Tony was very creative and talented, expressing himself through his many hobbies…weaving exquisite baskets, cooking culinary delights or dancing sassy hulas.
He also enjoyed his extensive travels with his wife of almost 50 years.
Of all his most enduring qualities, he will be remembered for his indomitable spirit, which lit up every room that he entered. He was always there for those in need, always there with some thoughtful insight, always there with his smile and good humor. He just was always there.
Tony leaves a legacy of many professional and personal accomplishments. His spirit lives in the hearts of everyone he touched.
Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased
