FAMILY PLACED OBITUARY

Shigeo “Shige” Asato
96, of Aiea, passed away peacefully at home on July 8, 2022. He was born in Waianae to the late Shinsei and Atsu Asato. He was the third of ten children and the oldest son. He attended Waianae intermediate and graduated from McKinley High School in 1944. He served in the US Army from 1950 - 1952, worked for Hawaiian Grocery Stores, then started his federal career at Kapalama Military Reservation. He retired as a civil service automotive mechanic from the Department of Defense in 1990.

Shige is survived by his wife of 67 years, Sumiko "Sumi," son Earl (Cindy), granddaughter Cali, and granddog Bubbles; siblings Harue (Koichi [d]) Oshiro, Betty (Katsuo [d]) Nakata, Ethel Asato, Robert (Miko), Inez (Chester [d]) Nakata, Roger (Julie), and Harold (Charlene); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother George (Ellen [d]), and sister Mitsuyo (Yeiichi [d]) Uyeunten.

He was a member of Aiea Hongwanji Mission, Nakagusuku Sonjinkai, and Tomari Doshikai.

Services will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at Hosoi Garden Mortuary. Visitation 3:00 pm, services at 4:00 pm. Masks required throughout the visitation and service please.
