Jonathan was born on August 16, 1968, in Seattle, Washington. He was the son of John Philip Hughes and the late Yvonne Hughes and the second of three siblings. In 2000, Jonathan moved to Honolulu where on December 2, 2007, he married Julianne C. Jay.
Jonathan had a magnetic, outgoing personality and everyone gravitated toward him. He always had a big smile and a friendly, cheerful word to share, and enjoyed captivating everyone with a good story. He was always sharply dressed and developed a strong fondness for Reyn Spooner shirts. He enjoyed traveling, good food, a good book, a game of golf with cigars and spending as much time as he could with his family.
Growing up and due to his father's career as a hotel general manager, Jonathan lived in many places that not only crisscrossed the United States but took him and his family internationally as well. Chicago, New York City and Copenhagen, Denmark to name a few. During his high school years, he attended Cardinal Newman High School in West Palm Beach, FL. and Camelback High School in Phoenix, AZ. Jonathan graduated from New England College with a degree in Business Administration and pursued a sales career, as well as a career in the hotel industry, following in the footsteps of his father. He served as managers at the Hale Koa Hotel, the Moana Surfrider Hotel and Sam Choy's Diamond Head Restaurant. In 2017, he entered the healthcare industry and most recently, he served as the general manager at Apria Healthcare in Honolulu.
Jonathan is survived by his wife, Julianne, his children: Diana and Tristan Hughes; his sibling: Nicole (John) Buggie; his nephews: Nicholas Buggie and Wynne Oakes; and his niece: Victoria Buggie.
