COLONEL HARRY JOST
COLONEL HARRY FREDERICK JOST 1913 - 2011 Born on June 29, 1913 in Chicago and reared in Hinsdale, Illinois, Harry died on December 28 at the age of 98. Harry won the Illinois state-wide solo voice competition in high school and sang with several orchestras including Gray Gordon, Clyde McCoy & his Sugar Blues Orchestra & the Horace Heidt Orchestra & Glee Club under his professional name of Gary Temple. Harry and his high school sweetheart Dorothy Chambers were married for 51years until her demise in 1983. In 1943, Harry volunteered for the Army & was commissioned at Fort Benning, Georgia & qualified as a parachutist. Harry is on the Honor Roll in the Infantry Candidate Hall of Fame. Harry served in France; Augsburg Germany; Trieste, Italy; Sapporo, Japan; Ft Leavenworth, Kansas; Washington, D.C., Governors Island, N.Y. His final assignment was at Ft Shafter, Hawaii, where he retired in 1968 & was awarded the Legion of Merit. Harry was a veteran of World War II, Korean & Viet Nam wars. Harry and Beatrice Iwamoto Collier were married in 1986. Beside Beatrice, Harry is survived by sons Richard (Jan), Jon (Marcella),& daughter Jocelyn (Robert) Shelton, grand-children Joy (Roy) Pilla, Erik (Krystal) Jost, Brad (Miki), Scott and Joel Shelton, Clara Jost, 7 great grandchildren and step-son Brent Kuniyoshi. Services will be held at Pohai Nani, 45-090 Namoku Street, Kaneohe on Saturday, January 21 at 10:00 am. Casual attire, no monetary gifts.
