MARY LUKE PETTY
Mary Luke Petty passed away peacefully on February 20, 2012 following a brief Illness. She was surrounded by loved ones to send her On her next journey. She is survived by her husband Kevin Petty and many family and friends.
Mary was born In Portland, Oregon on March 26, 1950. She was raised in Honolulu, Hawaii where she graduated from Kalani High School. Following a year of finishing school in London, she returned to Hawaii where she attended the University of Hawaii. She always had a passion for medicine so she moved to Boston where she worked her way through school and obtained her Bachelor of Science Nursing degree at Boston University in 1981.
She started her nursing career at the Massachusetts General Hospital eventually working her way up to
Assistant Head Nurse of a Medicine ward. Her nursing skills and compassion for patients were remarkable. It was during this time that she met and married her husband Kevin in 1986.
She moved to Silver Spring, Maryland in 1987 where she was a research oncology nurse at the National Institutes of Health. She later took a position at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda where she became a Certified Critical Care Nurse.
After some time, she decided to change her career direction and entered the travel Industry working as an agent for Ober United Travel in McLean, Virginia. She then moved to Dallas in 1991 where she continued her travel career with Graystone Travel.
In 1997, she moved to the Philadelphia area where she opened a CruiseOne franchise which she owned and operated. She was a member of the CruiseOne Advisory Board and Information Technology Subcommittee and was also an Accredited Cruise Counsellor for the Cruise lines International Association. She had many devoted and grateful clients all over the country whose lives she enriched by sending them on wonderful cruises.
Mary not only loved selling cruises but she loved going on them as well, traveling to destinations all over the world. In addition to cruising, Mary was passionate about Hawaiian music and all things Hawaiian. She particularly loved hula and became an accomplished hula dancer and performer in her final years. She was also an aficionado of single malt scotch.
Mary was loved by many and will be missed by all.
