RICHARD SUNAO OMURA, M.D.
Richard Sunao Omura, M.D., 85. loving husband, father, grandfather, and retired surgeon, peacefully passed away April 3, 2012 at home, surrounded by family. Born on June 25, 1926, in Honolulu, he completed high school at St. Louis College in 1944, received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Army, and graduated from Creighton University, School of Medicine in 1953. He returned home to complete his Internship and Residency in General Surgery at The Queen's Hospital and moved his family to Pennsylvania to complete a Fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. During his practice of 42 years, he established the Colo-Rectal Clinic and was well regarded within the surgical and medical community. He was Board Certified, and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. A 45 year member of Mid-Pacific Country Club, he enjoyed golfing and was a fan of all sports. He was a devoted, trusted friend to many.
He is survived by his beautiful wife of 60 years, May Yamamoto Omura, six children, and their families. Graveside services, Monday, 10:30 a.m. Mililani Mortuary Waipio. Aloha attire, lei welcome.
