MYRNA VALDEZ SUGAWAMYRNA VALDEZ SUGAWA
Myrna Valdez Sugawa, loving mother and wife, age 56, of Pearl City, died April 9, 2012, surrounded by her family, in Honolulu. She was born March 4, 1956 in Laoag City, Philippines, to Guillermo and Martina (Agamata) Valdez.
Myrna was educated in Laoag City and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Perpetual Care Nursing College. Myrna immigrated to Hawaii in 1980 and became a naturalized American citizen. She was employed at the Kuakini Medical Center for over 32 years. Her last position was that of a senior Registered Nurse at the step-down critical care unit. She was also chosen as a nurse preceptor to help train nurses, many of who continue to keep in contact with her.
Myrna was married to Edmund (Ed) Sugawa. She had two daughters, Rochelle, 21 & Jennifer, 16, and a stepdaughter, Kimberly Sugawa-Fujinaga.
Myrna was a parish member of Our Lady of Good Counsel in Pearl City, a member of the Hawaii Nurses Association and the National Kitchen and Bath Association. She was also a graduate of the PSI Women's Leadership Seminar.
Myrna was the co-founder of EMEE Kitchens & Baths, LLC, a kitchen and bath design & supply company in Aiea. She served as office manager and chief financial officer. She was also in charge of appliance and fixtures sales.
Myrna is survived by her husband, Ed; daughters, Rochelle Sugawa, Jennifer Sugawa, Mother, Martina Agamata Valdez; brothers, Elpidio Valdez, Efren Valdez; sisters, Evelyn Diego-Coloma, Germalinda (Linda) Pascual, Thelma Tamura.
Services are to be held Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at the Our Lady of Good Counsel church, 1525 Waimano Home Road, Pearl City, HI 96782. Family/Private viewing, 9:00am to 9:30am; Viewing, 9:30am to 11:30am; Mass, 11:30am to 12:30pm, Lunch, 12:30pm to 1:30pm. Burial to follow at 3:00pm at Hawaii Memorial Park, 45-425 Kamehameha Highway, Kaneohe, HI 96744.
