John Taboniar, 74, of Hilo, a retired meteorological technician for the National Weather Service, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and an Air Force veteran, died at home. He was born in Wahiawa. He is survived by wife Violet A.; sons Michael A., David A. and Matthew J.; daughter Jonnie A. Reynolds; brothers Benny Callejo and Joseph Taboniar; sisters Ruby Rivera, Betsy Shinagawa, Joanna Castillo, Julie Patricio and Salina Sonoda; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Visitation: 9 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 43 Kapiolani St., Hilo. Eulogy: 9:45 a.m. Mass: 10 a.m. Additional visitation: 9 a.m. May 12 at St. Theresa Church, 8343 Kaumualii Highway, Kekaha, Kauai. Eulogy: 10:45 a.m. Mass: 11 a.m. Casual attire.
