KATHERINE “KAY” WHITING AFONG KRAMERKATHERINE KAY WHITING AFONG KRAMER
Of Ewa Beach, age 98, matriarch of the Kramer and Chun Afong ohana, passed away December 30, 2012 at her home in Puuloa. She was born on November 21, 1914, in Honolulu. The daughter of Albert Francis Fayerweather Leialoha Afong and Julia Whiting and the granddaughter of Chun Afong and Julia Hope Kamakiapaaikamoku Fayerweather, Kay grew up on the Middle Loch Peninsula and in Nu'uanu. She graduated from Punahou School in 1932 (the class that started the carnival tradition) and was married to Fred Von Kramer for 49 years. Kay worked at the Bishop Trust and retired as Vice President and Board of Directors member. She then volunteered for 17 years and served on the boards of St. Francis Medical Center-West and St. Francis Healthcare Foundation. Auntie Kay was deeply loved and will be fondly remembered by her numerous nieces and nephews and the countless lives she touched. Visitation: 9:30 a.m. Monday, Jan.14, Oahu Cemetery Chapel.
