YUKIHISA SUZUKIYUKIHISA SUZUKI
90, emeritus professor and retired university president passed away on February 9, 2013 in Honolulu. "Yuki" was born in Tokyo, Japan and lived through turbulent times, having survived the September 1, 1923 Kanto (Tokyo) earthquake and World War II as a kamikaze torpedo bomber pilot. Yuki earned a bachelors, two masters and a doctorate from the University of Michigan. He went on to be a cataloger at the University of California, Berkley; librarian at the University of Michigan; emeritus professor at the University of Hawaii; and president and professor of Kyoto University of Foreign Studies where he taught library sciences and his love of the English language. He was recognized by the University of Michigan's Graduate School of Library Science as a distinguished foreign graduate. Yuki is survived by his sisters (Michiko Nakamichi, Mieko Senzaki), sons, Edmund (Jackie), Andrew (Roni) and Geoffrey (Karen); six grand- children (Anthony, Matthew (pre-deceased), Melissa, Michael, Daniel and Paige) and four great grandchildren (Lexi, Parker, Gracie, and Brian). Private service already held.
