ERVIN YAU TET KEKOA KAUERVIN YAU TET KEKOA KAU
December 17, 1940, to April 5, 2013 It is with the bittersweet mixture of sadness and joy that we say goodbye to the man who was a bigger than life presence in our lives; a man who gave us laughter, a love of sports, and the drive to reach our dreams and accomplish our goals. He worked his way through college with Grolier Publishing and Spencer International, and then used his degree in business to become personnel manager at DHL, Duty Free Shoppers, Pacific Insurance and Kamehameha Schools before reaching his dream as the Athletic Director for Kamehameha Schools. His love of sports would see him coach alternately for 50 years in baseball, basketball and football on both the mainland and here in Hawaii. He would lead the Enchanted Lakes Athletic Club sports program in Kailua and then Pony Baseball on both state and regional levels, as well as the Interscholastic League of Honolulu and Hawaii High School Athletic Association. He was also the past president of the board of directors for the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association. He was always willing to lend his time and talents to countless charities, committees and organizations throughout Hawaii and the mainland. We will miss his playful songs, ready smile, and insights into not only our sports lives, but our lives in general. Erv was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, the son of David and Edith Kau. He is survived by sons Kevin, Derrick, and Drake Kau, daughter Krystal Kau Hamner (Mike), former wife Cherryll, sister Estelle Kau Inn (Ken), grandchildren Kainoa Hamner, Makenakealoha and David Kau, step grandchildren Mychael and Lindee Hamner, Kahiau Wong, step great granddaughter Kaupali, niece Rachel Inn Melendez (Juan), nephew Jarrett Inn, and grandnephew Maka Koa Melendez. Services will be held at the Bernice Pauahi Bishop Chapel on the Kapalama Kamehameha School campus on Saturday, May 4, 2013. Visitation starts at 9:30, followed by the Memorial at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, In Memory of Erv Kau, to Windward PONY baseball (1583 Ulupuni St. Kailua, HI 96734) or the Honolulu Police Activities League (801 South Beretania Street, Honolulu, Hawaii, 96813).
Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased
