CHARLOTTE HATSUMI MURAKAMICHARLOTTE HATSUMI MURAKAMI God called Charlotte home on April 18, 2014, Good Friday, at the age of 74. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her immediate family. Charlotte was born on March 20, 1940. She was the only child of Shizuo and Umeno Onishi of Aiea. She graduated from Roosevelt High School and the University of California at Berkeley. She met her husband Arthur T. Murakami in 1963 and they married in 1964. She taught English at Kalani High School until the birth of her daughter Janice in 1968. She followed Jan throughout her school days and spent many years volunteering at Punahou School as room parent, PFA board member and during Jan's junior year she chaired the Punahou Carnival and went on to be PFA President during Jan's senior year. After Jan's graduation she worked for the East West Center, Child and Family Service and for the Governor's Office of Children and Youth as their Youth Affair's Officer until she retired to care for her father. She made caring for her family her top priority. She cared for him until his passing and then shortly after she became a grandmother to Jarret and then Jordan. She cherished her time with them and they were her pride and joy. Later she and Art moved from their home so she could be closer to her mother to care for her. Charlotte was always caring for someone be it her husband, parents, or grandsons. She was a friend to many and was always there to share a laugh, lend an ear, or give a hug. Charlotte was truly selfless in her love for others. She will be missed, but never forgotten. She is survived by husband, Arthur, daughter Janice Furuta, son-in-law Jason Furuta, grandsons Jarret and Jordan Furuta, and mother, Umeno Onishi. Memorial Services will be held May 17, 2014, their 50th wedding anniversary. Visitation 1pm; service 2pm at Thurston Memorial Chapel, Punahou School. No flowers, please.
Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased
