MALCOLM TATSUO KOGA
MALCOLM TATSUO KOGA Age 75, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2015 in Honolulu. Born on January 21, 1940, he grew up in Kalihi and Aina Haina. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1958 and the University of Hawaii in 1963. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and was honorably discharged as Captain. He was stationed in Munich, Germany; Vietnam; and Schofield Barracks. In 1973, he founded Koga Engineering & Construction Inc. A leader in the construction industry and community, Mal served as President of the General Contractors Association of Hawaii and National Director of the Associated General Contractors of America. He also served as Chairman of the State Contractors License Board. He was President of the West Honolulu Rotary Club and District Governor Nominee for Rotary District 5000. A throat cancer survivor himself, he was a board member of American Lung Association and the American Cancer Society. Mal was therecipient of many business awards and has been recognized for his philanthropic service. He was a Laureate of the Junior Achievement Hawaii Business Hall of Fame, Co-Recipient of the year for the U.S. Small Business Administration and the recipient of the American Lung Association's Breath of Life Award. He is survived by his wife Carol, daughters Karin (Arlen) Holt, Kristi (Jason) Koga White, Kimberly (Jason) Kubo; grandchildren Jenica & Trevor Holt, Drew Ogomori, Riley & Levi White, Tyler Kubo; brother Milton Koga. Private services were held.
