ROBERT CARROLL HOCKADAY
ROBERT CARROLL HOCKADAY Robert Carroll Hockaday passed over in his sleep December 13, 2014, at age 87. He was at home with daughter Lyn and son-in-law Scott Allen, in Kula, Maui. He joins his sweetheart-wife, Martha, who passed in March 2014. Bob and Martha raised their four children in Lanikai. They were active at Windward United Church of Christ, later Kailua United Methodist Church, moderating meetings, leading youth /children's activities, and singing in the choir. Bob was a planner. Even in high school (Santa Ana, CA) he organized activities for classmates and friends. As sales manager for Aloha State Sales, Honolulu president and national VP for Construction Specifications Institute and founder of Manufacturer's Agency Pacific, he led meetings and events with cheerful grace. Starting with a 1968 trip thru Europe by mini-van, Bob planned and executed amazing family adventures. Eventually, the trips included all grandchildren and even some cousins. When Bob and Martha moved to Good Samaritan Pohai Nani, he organized the library, developed a collection of sing-along books, and detailed the history of both staff and residents. Writing was part of Bob. His published books range from a textbook on how to fabricate Formica countertops to "How To Travel Adventurously With Your Family". He also wrote treasured pictorial family histories. Bob loved playing the tuba, enjoyed good humor, and hated yard work. He sang to his wife, and built sand castles with the kids. He is survived by sister Sally Campbell; daughters Louise South (Bill), Lyn Allen (Scott), Peggy Boytler (Tim Gentry); son Robert G. Hockaday (Mary); and 9 grandchildren. A memorial will be held Saturday, March 14, 1:00 p.m., Windward United Church of Christ in Kailua. Aloha attire.
Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased
