ALEX LEONG Alex Leong became a friend to everyone in need due to his self-sacrificing, inclusive, and humble attitude. Leong died on August 28, 2015 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was 70 years old. He was born on March 19, 1945 in Honolulu, Hawaii and was raised as the third oldest son in a family of five children in Kaimuki to parents Sun and Irene Leong. He graduated from Punahou School and Pomona College with a degree in Psychology. Leong worked for 42 years at the Board of Water Supply for the City and County of Honolulu, his first job out of college and last job before retirement. One of his most generous achievements was becoming a "Super Donor" with the Blood Bank of Hawaii. Over his lifetime Leong donated 123 pints (over 15 gallons), potentially saving 370 lives. He had a gentle disposition taking pleasure in simplicity such as reading and visiting national parks. As one friend noted, "How could anyone but love Alex -- his wry sense of humor, his loyal friendship, his steadfastness and dependability, his sweet and unassuming manner, his intelligence and down-to-earth common sense." Friendships with Leong ran deep and long, some friendships going all the way back to his childhood years at Community Church of Honolulu. Leong enjoyed the supporting role to others and never sought the limelight or credit for successes. Friends enjoyed his company because he let others be their special selves. Leong is survived by his wife Tina, his three step-daughters Jennifer Tom, Christina (Colin) Hazama, and Katie Tom (Marcelo) Alba as well as his siblings Denis (Diantha) Leong, Cornelia Sandborn and Chris (Laura) Leong.
