PATRICIO VIGA GOMEZ
PATRICIO V. GOMEZ Age 89, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2015 in the care of family members. He was born March 17, 1926 in Hilea, Hawaii to Pedro and Benita Gomez. Patricio grew up in the city of Naalehu. He served in U.S. Army in the 8th Calvary Regiment where he participated in the U.S. occupation of Japan at the end of World War II. Patricio became a carpenter for the Hutchinson Sugar Plantation and later enrolled at the Hilo Commercial College in which he obtained his clerk typist- certificate in 1950. He was later hired to work at the Pacific Proving Grounds on Enewetak Atoll. Patricio then entered federal civil service and married his sweetheart Maximina. Patricio enjoyed raising his children into adults. He retired with 39 years as a federal civil servant and 10 years as a State of Hawaii employee. Patricio was a member of the Saint Joseph Church of Waipahu and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Fort Shafter Post. Patricio is survived by his wife, Maximina; sons, Michael (Donna), Gary, Darryl (Cynthia), Glenn (Diane); daughters, Roxanne (Jonathan) Spatig and Francine (Christopher) Cozo; 7 grand- children; and 3 great-grand- children; sister, Florence Ragan. Family, friends, and others whose lives Patricio touched are invited to a funeral program at 9:00 a.m., which includes a funeral mass at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, November 30 at Saint Joseph Church, 94-675 Farrington Highway, Waipahu. At 1:00 p.m., his ashes will be interred at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbow Cemetery) with a U.S. military ceremony. Memorial donations may be made in lieu of flowers.
