KENNETH KUNIO KOBAYASHI (August 12, 1939 - March 15, 2016) Kenneth Kunio Kobayashi, age 76, passed away at home in Kaneohe on Tuesday, March 15, 2016. He was born in Kapaa, Kauai. After graduating from Farrington High School, he served in the US Navy and then received his Bachelor of Education degree and Professional Certificate from the University of Hawaii. Kenneth retired as an industrial arts teacher and taught wood shop, metal shop and industrial crafts at Kailua Intermediate School for most of his teaching career. He also coached JV basketball at Castle High School and 7th and 8th grade basketball at Kailua Intermediate School for many years. An avid sports fan, he especially enjoyed watching University of Hawaii and high school basketball, volleyball and football games. In addition, his hobbies included golfing, bowling, fishing, growing orchids and raising fish. The Kobayashi family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Kaiser Permanente and St. Francis Hospice for their exceptional care and support. Kenneth is survived by his wife, Janet; daughter, Debbie (Robert) Spillner; step-daughters, Michele (Brian) Adolpho and Cindy (Jim) Hewitt; grandchildren, Jacqueline Kawai and Jamie Kanoe Spillner, Brittany and Beth Kobayashi, Nichole and Dylan Adolpho, Chloe and Ellie Hewitt; great- grandchildren, Pono, Miles Kama and Nalu Spillner. He is also survived by his brother, Warren Kobayashi and sister Pamela Morikawa. He is predeceased by son, Brian Kobayashi; parents, Masayo and Walter Kobayashi; and brothers Gary and Ronald Kobayashi. Services will be held at Hosoi Garden Mortuary on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at 6 pm. Visitation begins at 5 pm. Casual attire, no flowers.
