Thomas Shinji Gima
THOMAS SHINJI GIMA Thomas "Tommy" Shinji Gima passed away on March 21, 2016 at the age of 91 surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife Sally Gima, and his (5) children, Sandra, Cindy, Roxanne, Corey, and Karen "Tammy", eleven (11) grand- children: Lavern, Amy, Kristy, Alden, Sommer, Thomas, Keith Jr, Corey Jr, Kyle, Candice, and Nicole; and eight (8) great grandchildren: Khalil, Jessica, Ray Jr, Makenzie, Paige, Ryan, Gabriel, and Dante. Tommy wasborn on July 4, 1924 in Haiku, Maui. His parents were Makato Yahiko and Shinsei Gima. He had 6 siblings, Richard, Warren, Norman, Gilbert, Lillian (all deceased) and Ruth Miyashiro (surviving). In 1945, Tommy enlisted in the US Army and served in the 442nd. Soon after, Tommy began stock car auto racing. In 1954 and 1955, Tommy won the title of Territorial Stock Car Auto Racing Champion. From 1974 - 1981, he raced at Hawaii Raceway Park in Campbell Industrial. Tommy was a successful businessman, operating several businesses including, Tommy Gima Trucking Co., Fleet Repair and Maintenance, Truck Repair Service, Oval Track Speed Parts and Sally's Connections. Services will be held at Kalihi Union Church on Tuesday, April 19, 2016. Visitation at 5:00 p.m, Memorial service at 6:00p.m. Casual attire.
