Paul Holualoa Akau
$namePAUL HOLUALOA AKAU Paul Holualoa Akau, descendant of the Koi'i-Unauna lineage, was born on September 28, 1963, to Robert Saint Akau, Sr. and Lucy Lonomaaikanaka Mia, in Honolulu, Hawai'i. Raised in Waimanalo, he attended Blanche Pope Elementary School and Kamehameha Schools; graduating with the class of 1981. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees in education from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. As a talented teacher, musician, ha'i mo'olelo and librarian, Paul inspired hundreds of Hawaiian children from the elementary schools of Hana, 'Aiea and Blanche Pope. For nearly 30 summers, he taught thousands of children through the Kamehameha Schools' Ho'omaka'ika'i Explorations program. As a pastor of Kupuna Church, he ministered to the elderly and the houseless in Waimanalo. He loved and served the community and God. Paul was a member of the Hawai'i State Teachers Association, Mamakakaua, Waimanalo Hawaiian Homestead Association, Hawaiian Civic Club, QLCC, Waimanalo Collaborative and Na Pono. As a teacher of a competency based program, over a hundred thirty adults graduated under his tutelage earning him the 2015 Windward Complex Teacher of the Year Award from the Waipahu Community School for Adults. He spent decades encouraging, inspiring, and mentoring students of all ages in the Hawaiian community. Our beloved husband, dad, papa, brother, teacher, kahu and friend went home to the Lord on July 12, 2016. Paul is survived by his wife of 22 years, Zeoma, and their three children, Kapualoke (Jason) Renaud, Kauanoe (Gavin) Fujinaka and Kalaninui Akau. He also leaves behind 5 grandchildren: Cameron, Mehana, Kalehua, Kahikina and Kalawai'a. His siblings include Robert Saint Akau, Jr., Marbeth Aquino, Jonnett Akau-Ali'ifua and Alan Akau. Mahalo a nui loa to the body of Christ who prayed and showed their aloha to Kahu Paul Akau during his recent illness. The Akau family is also appreciative of the staff at Castle Medical Center for their skill and care. A celebration of life will be held at Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. Burial to follow at 2:00 p.m.
