SamueL Yutaka Sasai
Samuel Y. Sasai, 92, of Honolulu, passed away at the Arcadia Retirement Residence on Wednesday, November 2, 2016. He was born on September 3, 1924 in Haleiwa, Hawaii to Tamaki and Kazu Sasai. Samuel attended Roosevelt High School and the University of Hawaii. In 1943 he enlisted in the U.S. Army joining the 442 Regimental Combat Team and served as a gunner in the Anti-Tank Platoon. He saw combat in Italy and France receiving the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and other decorations and citations. After the war he continued his education under the G.I. bill, graduating from the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science in Economics and the Wharton School of Finance and Commerce with a Master of Business Administration. Upon graduation he joined the Bank of Hawaii and retired as Vice President of Loan Administration. In retirement he enjoyed gardening and traveled extensively with his wife, a former Pan American World Airways director of passenger services. Samuel was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Michie and eldest son David. He is survived by son Alan (Lucy), grandchildren Dennis (Shanda), Devin (Michelle), Matthew (Nae), Michie, Jason and 4 great grandchildren.
