PHILOMENA “BUNNY” GARRETT
Philomena "Bunny" V. Garrett (nee Thomas), 75, died peacefully with family at her side on Friday, November 4, 2016 at the Aloha Nursing and Rehab Center in Kaneohe, HI where she resided for many years. Bunny is survived by husband Charles Garrett of Kailua, HI, son Michael Garrett and wife Deb and grandsons David and Daniel of Allen, TX, and son Chuck Garrett and husband Kyle Brown of Kaneohe, HI. Born in Philadelphia, PA on January 23, 1941, Bunny spent her early years attending Good Shepherd Catholic School and later West Catholic High School; class of 1958. One of her first jobs was as an usherette at the Erlanger Theater, which began her lifelong love of musical theater. With four siblings and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews close by, family was a central part of her life. In 1960, she married Charles Garrett of Chester, PA and together they built a happy life raising their two sons. The family settled in Willingboro, NJ where they lived for over 15 years. Known for her positive outlook on life, she was active in her sons' school life and enjoyed teaching CCD. In 1977, Bunny obtained her insurance license and started a career at March Realty where she worked for many years. She loved to watch the Olympics, especially figure skating. In 1990, Bunny and Charles relocated to Kailua, Hawaii where Charles retired from the Hawaii Army National Guard and Bunny worked at Hawaiian Quilt Collection. Kailua Beach was Bunny's favorite place to watch the sunrise or celebrate special occasions. She loved Hula, the Merrie Monarch Festival and the Brothers Cazimero May Day Festivals. A memorial service will be held on Monday December 5th at 5:30 P.M. at the Hawaiian Memorial Park in Kaneohe, HI followed by a private burial at the National Cemetery of the Pacific.
