Lois Wright was born in Lahaina Maui. She was raised in Manoa, attended Lincoln elementary, Roosevelt (class of 1938), and graduated from U H Manoa. During WWII she worked in the WARDs (Women's Air Raid Defense). She received her teaching degree and taught P. E. at Konawaena, Rad-ford, Dole, and McKinley, finishing at McKinley in the audiovisual department with an MA. In 1946 Lois married newspaperman Sidney Carl Wright. Lois had a passion for horticulture which was exemplified in her gardens. An avid outdoors-woman, she enjoyed hiking, horseback riding, and gardening, while continuing to teach swimming into her 80's. As a teacher of feather lei making, she was never seen without her papale and feather lei. She was involved in Daughter's of Hawaii, Oahu Retired Teachers Association, Foster Gardens, Lyons Arboretum, the Makiki Senior group, Wahine O Manoa, and the Hawaii Philatelic Society. She spent half the year on the Big Island where she belonged to Hamakua Family Community Education, the Hawaii Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society, Vireyas in Hawaii, and the Hamakua Senior group and club.
Lois is survived by daughters, Carol W. Yurth and Marcia B. Wright, a granddaughter, and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church at Koolau, 45-550 Kionaole Road, on Saturday January 22nd. Visitation 8:30 a.m. Service 9:30 a.m. Aloha attire.
