Catherine Agnes Trumpler Campbell
CATHERINE AGNES TRUMPLER CAMPBELL Campbell, Catherine Agnes Trumpler, 94, widow of Robert W. Campbell, passed away November 3, 2010 in Rocky River, Ohio. Born in Clifton, NJ, July 2, 1916, the daughter of the assistant treasurer of the Erie Railroad, Harrison Trumpler and his wife Agnes, Catherine lived most of her life in Ohio, residing in Fairview Park, Rocky River, and Port Clinton. She was also a part-year resident of Honolulu, Hawaii for over 30 years. She was married for 51 years to Robert Wallace Campbell, founding partner of the law firm Merkel, Campbell, Dill, and Zetzer and president of Ohio's Standard Drug Company. He passed away in 1992. A 1934 graduate of Lakewood High School, Catherine graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Case Western Reserve in 1965 at the age of 49. A lifetime lover of the arts and music, Catherine once served as Art Director of the Thomas Hurd Realty in Rocky River, Ohio. But her interests truly flourished in Hawaii where she studied Hawaiian music, dance, and culture both at the university and under the tutelage of "Papa" Dave Kekua. At the age of 60, Catherine became an accomplished hula dancer on Waikiki. She also served for many years as the manager of a group of local musicians known on Waikiki Beach as the "Hau Tree Gang." Surviving Catherine are sons: Robert D. Campbell and wife Carolyn of Freeport, NY; Paul F. Campbell and friend Gretchen Jaeger of Lakewood, Ohio; grand children: Lael E. Campbell and wife Keirsten of Maclean, VA; Elita L. Barnhart and husband Matthew of Glen Cove, NY; Joel Joram Ellis Campbell and wife Jaimie of Wharton, NJ; great-grandchildren: Noella R. Barnhart, Gabriel H. Barnhart, Jake Robert Campbell, Cole Michael Campbell, Luke Wallace Campbell, and Cassady W. Campbell; sister: Dorothy Longnecker Smith of Boyton Beach, FL, and several nieces & nephews. Interment will be in Catawba Island Cemetery, Port Clinton, OH. In lieu of flowers the family would like memorial contributions to be given to the Catawba Island Club Run Walk for Humanity Charity, 4235 E. Beach Club Rd., Port Clinton, OH 43452.
