80Joseph Kalaeokumukahi "Ekolu" Whitford III, 57, of Laie, former athletic director at Kahuku High School and educator at Kahuku, Kaiser and Kaimuki high schools and BYU Hawaii, died in Castle Medical Center. He was born in Honolulu. He is survived by wife Daryl M.; son Joseph K. IV; daughters Makana and Kau'i Leiataua, Keala Uesi, Katie Whitford and Minnie Talataina; stepfather Phillip Naone; brothers Mark Whitford, Walter Aona and Phillip Naone Jr.; sisters Shawna Keliinoi, Kuulei Whitford, Hilda Kawaakoa and Ryanette Kahoonei; and 15 grandchildren.
