Geraldine (Geri) Nishizawa Baenen
Geraldine (Geri) Nishizawa BaenenGERALDINE (GERI) NISHIZAWA BAENEN Geri, age 74, passed away unexpectedly on September 21, 2016 following surgery at Swedish Hospital in Seattle, WA. She was born in Honolulu and attended Castle High School (class of '60), the University of Hawaii, and graduated from Washington State University in 1964. She taught for Seattle Public Schools 1964-1970 and 1972-1997, and in Twin Hills, Alaska, a remote village on Bristol Bay 1970-72. She enjoyed her career as an elementary school teacher in Multi-Cultural education and ESL. Geri is predeceased by her parents, Toshio and Beatrice Nishizawa and brother, Gary Nishizawa. She is survived by her husband, Jim; son, Kimo (Rachael) and their sons, Eli and Mason; stepson, Greg (Charlene) and their three children in Washington State; sister, Gwen (Clayton) Fujie ; brothers, Miles (Harriet) and Dr. Guy (Michelle) Nishizawa in Hawaii; four nieces and nephews. Though she lived in Washington State, she visited Hawaii often and was a proud member of Hui O Laulima and Yomitan Sonjin Kai. Geri made the world a brighter place with her calm presence and cheerful nature. Those of us who were lucky enough to know and love her will never forget her. A celebration of life will be held on November 2 at Hosoi Garden Mortuary at 6:00 p.m. with visitation at 5:00 p.m. Inurnment will take place on November 3 at Hawaiian Memorial Park in Kaneohe at 10:00 a.m. Aloha attire.
