WELL-KNOWN HONOLULU BUSINESSMAN DIES AT 93 !
RAYMOND GILBERT MOREIRA, passed on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at Hale Nani Rehabilitation Center in Honolulu, after a long illness. Born on October 16, 1916 in Honolulu, the son of Portuguese immigrants.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Beatrice (Iwasaki) Moreira, his daughter, Karen Meredith-Lindholm, and his son, Jeffrey Moreira, Also survived by two stepchildren, Brian Iwasaki and Laurie Tamura, 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
A 1936 graduate of Roosevelt High School, Ray was an outstanding football player, and earned the nickname "Crash". He followed high school and college games, as well as Basketball and Wahini vollyball.
He was a natural "salesman and became a Manager at City Mill, and advanced his career to become a Vice President of Mid Pac Lumber.
In 1959 he started Moreira, Inc. bringing mainland building supplies to Hawaii, eventually specializing in ceramic tile. Moreira Tile silently closed its doors in December 2008.
Ray was quick with a corny joke and a smile. He was an endearing husband , father and grandfather and leaves a deep void in their lives.
