John Hookano Alapai, 62, of Kailua-Kona, a retired Army first sergeant, a ranch hand for Puuwaawaa Ranch and proprietor of Hideaway Bar and Grill in Kansas, died in Kona Community Hospital. He was born in Kahaluu Beach, Hawaii. He is survived by brother Ralph, sisters Ivy Kizler and Velma Kauahi, hanai brother Wayne Kahulamu and hanai sister Margaret Jose. Visitation: 8:30 a.m. next Saturday at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Kailua-Kona. Mass: 10 a.m. Burial to follow at West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery, Kailua-Kona. Casual attire. Flowers welcome.
