EDGAR KAUHIWAHIWA PRATT, JR.
Edgar "Joe" K. Pratt, Jr., age 57 was born to eternal life on October 14, 2010 in Honolulu. He is missed tremendously by many and will always be remembered as a loving and generous Husband, Dad, Papa, Brother, Uncle and friend.
Born in Honolulu, HI, to the late Edgar (Sr.) and Louise K. Pratt, Edgar was the third of seven children. Raised in Ka'alaea, he attended several schools on O'ahu including Wai'ahole Elementary and I'olani School. He was known as an outstanding athlete as well as a bright, young leader.
In 1971, he joined the military and was stationed in Italy, where he served his country as a national security officer providing support to US Army Garrison base in Vincenza.
After his military service, he returned to Hawai'i where he met the love of his life, the former Veronica Hipa. They married, had two beautiful children and settled in Kane'ohe where they shared so many great memories. This year, they would have celebrated 35 years of marriage.
In 1979, Edgar began a promising career at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard. He started as a frontline laborer, moved up the ranks to Union Representative then to Supervisor and finally retiring as a Project Quality Engineer. He dedicated almost 34 years of his life to the federal government as a civil servant.
In 1986, while still employed by Pearl Harbor, Edgar felt the need to serve his community so he enlisted in the Honolulu Police Department as a reserve police officer.
He was passionate about this work because it allowed him to be an active participant in his community.
Over the years, he celebrated several milestones including the welcoming of his four beautiful grandchildren. He loved spending time with family and friends, diving, golfing, backyard luau's and trips to Vegas. He was a cultural leader in his own right who loved passing on his Native Hawaiian customs and traditions to the next generation.
Edgar's great and gentle spirit was and will always remain larger than life. He was many things to many people, and to his family he was always their loving, steadfast "rock".
He will be remembered for his courage, sheer determination, inner strength, quiet compassion and steadfast loyalty. His legacy of love, dedication and selfless service will live on forever through those he touched.
He is survived by his wife, Veronica, daughters, Tina Marie Freitas and Sandra Ann
