JOYCE “MA FIN” FINLEY
JOYCE "MA FIN" FINLEY Age 70. Joyce Finley was born in Portland, Oregon on February 7, 1940. Joyce passed away November 11, 2010 at St. Francis Hospice in Ewa after a long and hard fought battle with cancer. Joyce was a graduate of the University of Oregon, a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority and received her master's degree from the University of Hawaii. Joyce was an artist, mother and teacher. Joyce and her beloved son, Ron moved to Hawaii in 1970. Joyce began a long and wonderful career as an art teacher at Punahou School where she brought enriched the lives of thousands of children. Even while battling cancer, "Ma Fin" continued to teach at Punahou and traveled abroad with students from Punahou and Roosevelt sharing her knowledge and love of art with them. Sadly, her son Ron passed away in 2002. Joyce is survived by sister, Carolyn Campbell and much loved granddaughters Lauren Finley-Jacob, Kendall Finley- Jacob and Emma Finley-Jacob. Memorial Service to be held at Punahou Chapel on Sunday November 21, 2010 at 11:00 a.m., followed by the scattering of her ashes at Kaimana Beach at 1:00 p.m. Loose flowers are welcome. Donations may be made in her name to Punahou School Art program or Heifers International in lieu of flowers.
