JOAN TOMIKO ARAKAWA TABA
Joan Taba, 91, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2011.
Joan, the 8th of nine children of Zempan and Tsuru Arakawa, was born on August 24, 1920 and grew up in Waipahu. She graduated from Mid-Pacific Institute, attended Wolfe Fashion Design School and worked at Arakawas Store until its 1996 closure as the Manager of apparel and accessories. She is known for the use of palaka material and apparel that became symbolic of Arakawa.
Her devoted husband of over 59 years, Horace Taba died in 2003, but Joan continued to enjoy life with children: Ann-Lea (John) Schramm, Bobbie and Leacia Taba; grandchildren, LiliAnn and Jenelle Schramm; brothers, Shigemi and Goro Arakawa, and many nieces and nephews.
Joan's life will be celebrated on Sunday, December 4 at Milialni Mortuary Mauka Chapel. Visitation 9:00 am; Memorial Service 10:00 a.m. Casual Attire. No flowers, please.
