Abel Alves Vares, 95, of Kihei, formerly of Wailuku, a retired Hawaii Army National Guard major and an X-ray technologist at Maui Memorial Medical Center and Kaiser clinic, died. He was born in Grove Ranch, Maui. He is survived by wife Eva; sons Roland, Clinton and Keith; brother Wilfred; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
